Friday’s gloriously bright morning found us cruising from the very pleasant Pleasant Harbor to pretty Potlatch Park south of Hoodsport.
A view of the Olympic Mountains, looking west from Hood Canal
We were treated, as we traveled, to views of clusters of colorful beach cottages clinging to the Hood Canal’s shores; deep-green forested hillsides, streaked with autumnal orange, yellow, and gold, undulating above the Canal’s margins; and the jagged jaws of the Olympic Mountains biting hungrily into the deliciously cloudless skies. After trying to hook two mooring buoys, neither of which presented us with properly functioning top rings, we found a good anchoring spot in the shallow indentation in the shoreline along which the nicely landscaped park stretches, and spent the evening playing games (Farkel, Yahtzee, Quiddler, Five Crowns, and Hearts) while listening to the barking of the sea lions around the nearby hydroelectric plant and the cries of the ever-present seabirds.
