Propane and cookies

Tuesday, October 7

After a perfectly quiet night in the marina illuminated by two full moons, one peering down from the sky and the other looking up at the boat from the black-satin sea, Walt began to work on the installation of the StarLink system and I walked up the docks to the shore beneath a pretty “cottage-cheese” sky, picked and ate a few late blackberries as I observed the beach at low-tide, took some pictures, chatted with Mark, the pleasant Harbormaster, and watched a seaplane land and take off again a short way from the marina.

The marina’s entry viewed from another direction; I love the sky!

In the afternoon, Walt and I drove around the island to the town of Eastsound, where Walt has substituted for the priest of Emmanuel Episcopal Church several times, in order to get our propane bottles filled. The scenery was superb on a sunny afternoon, we were able to obtain the propane, and we each bought a large cookie at a bakery to enjoy on the drive back to Deer Harbor. As we were approaching the village, a young deer appeared at the side of the road–the harbor IS aptly named!

I pulled the two propane bottles along the docks to Braesail in a shore cart and heaved them onto the deck, and was returning the cart to its spot near the marina’s main building when Walt met me, having parked the Prius in the marina lot. While he walked back to the boat, I took the photo below, thinking how happy I was to have Braesail in this beautiful harbor, looking forward to another of Walt’s excellent dinners, and hoping to see the full “harvest moon” again before falling asleep.

Can you see Braesail next to the finger pier in the center of the photo with several sailboats to her starboard? Three fenders festoon her port flank.
