Beginning 2025: Blessings and best wishes to you all!

Our night in Deer Harbor was very quiet once the New Year’s fireworks had been exploded, and we motored away from the dock shortly before 11 am under partly cloudy skies. We encountered some headwinds, but the sea’s surface was only gently rippled and our trip back to Braesail’s slip in the Anacortes Marina was smooth and enjoyable.

I ambled to the end of the docks after reading some informational placards about the town and its shoreside and marine wildlife, and saw these two sailboats floating placidly at anchor.

We had no trouble docking at about 2 pm, and after a quick onboard lunch, we drove to Vancouver for a quick meeting with Martin (who’d returned to Vancouver from Saltspring Island on Tuesday by ferry to take care of some business) and Karen so that we could give back to her the wallet that she had left in Braesail’s forward cabin when she and Hans left Ganges Harbor for Vancouver on Sunday morning. We then drove Martin to the ferry terminal, and after supper at a Noodle Box Asian restaurant, he boarded the boat back to Saltspring Island to participate in the rest of the dance workshop that had begun on Sunday. As a white fingernail moon scraped away enough of the black sky to allow several silvery stars to appear and wink sleepily at us, we drove back to Anacortes to spend the night on Braesail, pack our food and belongings, and return home to Everett on Thursday. It had been a long day, but a good one; our two weeks away were also marvelous in many ways, but challenging and tiring for me. I’m thankful for God’s protection and for the beautiful blessings we enjoyed, and now I will begin to work on our annual family newsletter.
