Off to Deer Harbor on Orcas Island we motored, leaving Prevost Harbor at about 10:30 am and arriving at the reciprocal mooring dock (where members of certain yacht clubs can stay free for a night or two) shortly after 1 pm. The journey was easy, with a little wind puffing over Braesail’s side (not consistent enough in speed or direction for comfortable sailing) and shafts of sunlight tagging along.
After lunch, Walt worked on a log-term computer project and then took his usual afternoon nap. I strolled up and down the docks on a slightly chilly afternoon, looking at the other boats, stopping into a little combination grocery store and fast-food cafe, hiking up a considerable hill past an eatery and some houses, and taking some pictures as I went.
Back on the boat, I decided to nap as well as darkness descended. Walt and I did some computer tasks after supper; I deleted over 500 more charitable contribution solicitations that I received as emails, text messages, and phone calls, and made a few year-end contributions before watching two episodes of a Masterpiece Mystery series with Walt and settling into bed as holiday nights twinkled from the structures on the shore and a few fireworks popped. Although we had had some fabulous times during 2024, we were glad to bid the year farewell!
