The PLAN: Phase 3: Bringing Braesail a new chart-plotter

Sunday, June 2, 2024

Walt rose early on a very gray, rainy morning and drove to Fisheries Supplies in Seattle to pick up the new chart-plotter, and I prepared for our 9:30 am departure for Vancouver, Langdale, Earl’s Cove, Saltery Bay, Powell River, and Braesail moored at the Okeover dock. The drive back was more challenging than the trip to Everett because of the heavy precipitation, and we could see very little as we traveled on the ferries because of the billows of rain and mist blanketing the boats and hiding the hillsides (I didn’t attempt to take pictures!).

We stopped before crossing the Canadian border to pick up a few groceries, and we bought supper items in the deli section of the IGA store in Madeira Park. We met Erik, our excellent car rental guy, at his home in Powell River, drove to Okeover Harbour arriving at about 8 pm, and loaded our purchases into an ancient, rusty wheelbarrow that served as a shore cart. We waved good-bye to Erik as he drove away in the rental Accord, and proceeded to load our food and gear onto Braesail on a very damp evening after another 11-hour travel day.

While I put everything away on board, Walt removed the old chart-plotter from the binnacle in the cockpit, installed the new one, and saw that it was functioning properly—mighty CHEERS!

After our two-day “break” from boating, we were very tired but felt VERY relieved and thankful, believing that we’d successfully executed our big PLAN!
