Our rental Honda Accord arrived at the Okeover Harbour Authority docks early on Saturday morning; we’d had a very quiet night and were packed for our trip home to Everett. The owner of the Powell River business drove us back to his home, he went over the car with Walt, Walt took the driver’s seat, and off we went on a very gray, misty morning.
The drive to the ferry dock at Saltery Bay, over roads edged with forest, wildflowers, and dark, moss-carpeted granite, was a very beautiful one that gave us glimpses of the sea to the west as we proceeded. We arrived at the dock very early, giving Walt time for coffee and both of us time to read and do some French study. The 45-minute ferry trip to Earl’s Cove was a very pleasant one; I went outside on the upper “sun deck” (a “mist deck” this time!) and strolled around the entire ship in the wind and soft rain. Visibility was not great, but the fresh air was!
We next drove southeast from Earl’s Cove to the Langdale ferry dock, stopping at an extremely busy bakery in the town of Sechelt for some delicious treats! Again, we were early for the ferry, and were able to rest and read in the car while awaiting the ship’s departure. During this trip, Walt napped in the car while I walked all around the passenger deck and spent a minute or two outside at the bow on the top deck in the full force of the wind and the drizzle–quite refreshing!
We disembarked at the Horseshoe Bay dock in Vancouver at about 4:15 pm and drove to Everett, stopping only to pick up some Mexican “fast food” on the way. We carried a large bag of laundry into our condo at about 7:30 pm after an eleven-hour journey. I spent the evening reading our more urgent mail, doing laundry, and repacking for our trip back to the boat on Sunday. Walt managed to load the software he needed onto his tablet computer; he will make do with the tablet until he can purchase a new laptop after our return in July.
We were quite tired after executing Phase 2 of our Plan to replace our non-functional chart-plotter, and Walt fell asleep at once as he nearly always does, while I lay awake with a list of “to-do’s” scrolling through my brain. I think I packed everything we planned to bring back to the boat, but DID I??
