Sunday, January 14
We drove the 50 miles back to the boat on a silvery Sunday morning with more boat parts, tools, food, AND the wine, and Walt was soon able to locate and stop the water leak. We finished loading the boat, and spent the afternoon motoring over still, shining seas to Reid Harbor on Stuart Island over the course of about five hours, spotting the nose of a seal poking up through the water in the harbor, watching large flocks of water birds feeding, and seeing some deer grazing on Speiden Island’s velvety green slopes. One small boat was tied to the dock near the snowy shore of the marine park, so we moored Braesail behind it, being very careful not to slip on the dock’s icy boards as we secured the lines.
Aside from the boat at the dock, Braesail was the only vessel in the very large harbor, and, being rather tired, we crawled into bed relatively early, looking forward to a peaceful night.
