Having made our last travel preparations and packed our Prius, Walt and I drove to Anacortes on a clear, frigid day, passing frosty swirls on the surfaces of the city’s frozen wetlands, and loaded the boat with food, bedding, clothing, tools, parts, cold weather gear, etc.

We’d planned to travel on the following day to Reid Harbor on Stuart Island on our way to meet Martin, Karen, and Hans on the 16th in the city of Nanaimo on the east coast of Vancouver Island, but in the late afternoon we discovered a water leak that had probably resulted from damage done by the extremely cold weather. Walt shut off Braesail’s water and we drove back home to spend the night where we’d have easy access to functioning toilets! On the way, we thought of several items, including a few bottles of wine, that we’d forgotten, and were glad that we’d have a chance to collect them.
